-lifestyle.us - Scientists in Australia have discovered the world’s rarest coral reefs. Reefs are found in the northern Pacific Ocean. Elkhorn Reef Pacific is found when the scientists conducted a survey on the seabed of Arno Atoll in the Marshall Islands.
Reef researcher Dr Zoe Richards of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies (CoECRS) at that time were investigating Arno Atoll, coral reefs with the type of ring (atoll).
The reef is believed to have a physical resemblance to the coral species Acropora palmata in the Atlantic Ocean. However, after a study of genetics, these corals apparently originating from different species.
“When I first saw this rock, I was really surprised to see the physical shape of the rock,” said Richards.
He said that ditemukannnya reefs have nearly five meters wide and two meters high and its offshoots such as deer antlers mingled. “It’s not like that I found in the Pacific Ocean before.”
So far, said Richards, he only found small rocks scattered along the stretch of the Marshall Islands. These rare corals grow in relatively shallow water. “So far there are 200 undiscovered reefs in remote areas,” Richards said as he declared that the reefs are endangered ecosystems if not rescued soon.
